I know i’ve not written anything for a long time. But we all have things to do lives to live and slightly important things to…well, forget.. Sorry about that! Now onto the topic.

Most people compare what Operating System they have. Yet what does the average user do on a computer? *drumroll* They turn the computer on and turn on a browser and surf the web. Gnarly. Ok so maybe the average user also makes some presentations and writes the weekly essay. But that market is majorly owned by MS Office. Theres also Open Office and Google Docs, but not many people use those.

In a later blog i’ll post the pros and cons of each browser for the internet where I am is not… that reliable.

Most people will be lazy and stick to a browser that comes with the computer. For Windows its Internet Explorer. For OSX Leopard/Lion its Safari. Although most users will change to another one, for example Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.

With that when you look at a operating system they are all very similar now, because the average user won’t play around with REGEDIT or system32 files to tweak their computer. *cough*or try to tweak and screw something up. So all in all we’ve moved from the war between operating system to the war of the browsers. Which one will dominate? Only time will tell. Or will it form into a perfect market with each browser having its own perfectly sized niche to keep it alive. Cheers.

Now lets check the system requirements of lets say.. Crysis 2:

Intel Processor – Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz (Better)
Nvidia Graphics Card - GeForce 8800 GT (Better)
RAM (Memory) – 3 GB (Ideal although easily expandable to 8gb)
Hard Disk Space – 9 GB (More then enough)
Direct X – 9 (Direct X 11 compatible)

So this would easily run Crysis 2. With a little RAM upgrade it would be ready to run it on high settings.
Now with every custom computer there are always ways to make it even nicer.

Facebook is rolling out their new product. An email service. You may be able to reserve your email @ this following link http://bit.ly/gcnAiY . Now will Facebook be able to compete with other email providers? Gmail is going really strong and accepted by most business’s as contact information. AOL and Yahoo seem to be dying out given their massive amount of spam bots. And Hotmail keeping the people who registered and think of it as to much of a hassle to change emails. Personally I have multiple emails, but most of them are Gmail and one custom one.

But look at it this way from a business perspective. We all have our friends already added on our respective Facebook pages. Now add email functionality to that. We will be able to log into ONE website to check on everything. From the relationship status of that person we like, to that funny video/picture our friends post. Which will become self aware and secretly plot world domination first? Google? Watson(IBM)? or Facebook?

So ok. Everyone has at one point in time complained about facebook and its wack privacy. Facebook is the LEAST of your problems. Point A: Randoms go information phishing by simply going to peoples profiles and getting your information that way. IE. address, phone number, names. etc.

Solution: http://www.facebook.com/#!/settings/?tab=privacy <-- Go here. Then hit Custom. In Custom hit customize settings. For a privacy Nazi (like me). Set everything to Friends Only

This brings me to another point. If you don’t want the 5 pictures on the top be the last 5 pictures that you were tagged in (those moments when you decided it’d be fun to streak naked or lick whipped cream of another guy ). Simply in the custom privacy settings go to Things others share category and hit edit settings. Hit ONLY ME. Now when you go look at your pretty profile, you will still see the last pictures you were tagged in. BUT if someone else looks at your profile they will see your 3rd to 7th last profile pictures. Problem solved. No more embarrassing pictures on your front page!

ANOTHER problem is people trusting EVERY FREAKING APPLICATION THEY SEE! WHAT THE HEEEYO MEEEEN! Tu es locooo muchacho. For people into programing or learning here is a list of all possible permissions a developer may have his Facebook app have.

To break it down for people who find the link above confusing. If you see Access my data any time, that means that you are enabling the application to make requests (do stuff ) on behalf of you. Now why would an application want to do this if its supposed to tell you your very first Facebook post(which it doesn’t)? Moving on. Another funny one is Manage my pages. Simply said, if you have a page the application owner can now edit it for you.

These things can get your freaking phone number! How? By adding:

user_mobile_phone

To their application. Beware of these apps. Especially the stupid ones. Like something that is easily faked. See Who Views Your Profile! / Every Hour <— REALLY. A simple realistic number to fake would be. (get number of friends * randomize between (0.2 and 0.4)). O look! If I have 1000 friends i’m getting a random number between 200 to 400 page views per hour!

*sigh* this turned into a mini essay. I hope you guys learned something and protect yourselves from identity theft, Yes identity theft, on our beloved facebook. I don’t do this cause I’m not a prick like some people in the development community. Remember when your opponent has you in checkmate. Play by your own rules and remove the King from the board. *AC:B reference*

1) Go to Google Translate and

2) Type in “Will Justin Bieber ever hit puberty” then

3) English to Vietnamese

4) Copy paste the Vietnamese words

5) Vietnamese to English

6) Laugh

So, ok I was going to write a review on Fable 3. A Game that I ALMOST threw out the window for its blasphemy in the game world. I never got around to doing it because I couldn’t FORCE myself to play past the first mission. Thanks to my friend Matthew O, I have just seen a review that ECHOES my thoughts. I had the same reactions for 70% of the material he speaks about. The other 30%? I never played the game long enough to suffer through it. And now. The review. *drumroll. http://bit.ly/gbNiRj.

Cheers

In two states in USA birds just… died. http://abcn.ws/hUHyaa. Whats happening? Is the Earth’s core stopping?!

So hopefully everyone has heard of Google by now. If you haven’t then I don’t know where you’ve been living.. But back onto the subject. Google is a giant living on the internet. Starting off with a simple search engine and a quirky name. The name itself is genius. When you compare saying yahoo or Metacrawler, Google rolls of the tongue easily. But we can’t forget Bing. Why? Because it’s a secret acronym for “Bing Is Not Google”, which then goes into a paradox because ‘Bing’ in that is another acronym for…, a redundant joke. It’s ease of use and reliability has led Google to become dominant in the search engine industry. But as a business that did not stop them.

Google had the chance to forge the one ring of power. The one ring to rule them all. From search engines then went onto making a profound email service. This led to them buying Youtube, creating Google Earth, IGoogle, etc. This leads to a cool thing that Google has created. Google SMS, which is located here. Now wait Google has a SMS server? Why yes. Yes they do. SMS.google.com. So does this mean that Google can be treated as one Giant internet cell phone? Why yes. Yes it can. Every cell phone company has their own servers. For example Virgin: phone#@vmobl.com. So in theory if someone has the phone number: 123-456-7890. 1234567890@vmobl.com would be the address of the cell phone. And you had access to, let’s say, a sSMTP server. I’m looking at you Google! Think of the possibilities! This means that you can send Text Messages through a Gmail account. Simply put find out your carrier, let’s stick to virgin still for the sake of consistency, and with the knowledge of your cell phone carrier send an email to yourphone#@vmobl.com. And there you have it! Texting to people from your email.

Now for the fun part. It is really simple to write a program to send messages to others. Start of with starting up linux and running:

sudo apt-get install ssmtp

After you install ssmtp, open up the configuration file with your choice of text edit, be it nano, vi , or kate. The file should be located in etc/ssmtp/ssmtp.conf. Once you find the file add these following lines.

AuthUser=GmailAccount@gmail.com
AuthPass=GmailPassword
FromLineOverride=YES
Mailhub=smtp.gmail.com:587
UseSTARTTLS=YES

After the configuration file is set up open a new file, name it smsbomber.sh, and copy this into it:

#Begin Script
#!/bin/sh
Echo Please, enter number
read NUMBER
echo Please, enter message
read MESSAGE
cat $MESSAGE | mail –s “SMSBOMBER” $NUMBER
#End Script

After the file is saved to make it runnable.

Chmod 777 smsbomber.sh

And to run it.

/smsbomber.sh

Enjoy.

I shall get back into blogging soontimes. Next topic will be something I learned quite recently.

So the Wii we all know and i’ll just skip.

The ps3 move.. uhm *see wii*.

*cracks knuckles ok X-box Kinect. From information told about this little piece of hardware. The built in microphone is stroner and has better quality then the corded mic that the original xbox was bundled with.

The sad part about the Kinect. Old xboxs will connect using a usb powerbar. Where the Slim has a port in the back dedicated to the Kinect.

What else is on it. Well people will always wonder how it works and how it will capture your entire body movements. The Kinect has an array of 3 Cameras. Yes 3 Cameras. The middle one is mainly used as a simple camera. Take pictures or chat with friends. The outer (left and right) cameras are the Kinects depth perception. (possible 3d pictures?)

The absolute funniest mechanism built in. Is the ability to move itself. If someone enters the frame of a chat just a bit on the edge. The Kinect can reposition itself using small motors to include the new person (*cough parent) in your webcame chat with a guy/girl from the states which you’ve never met in real life… wait thats fucking creepy.

The one game I REALLY want to try and I recomend strongly when this thing comes out. Is… Child of Eden http://bit.ly/aQxwfa.

Heres something everyone wants. A list of games that are going to come out for this. *skips release titles.

  • The Biggest Loser: Ultimate Workout
  • Brunswick Pro Bowling
  • DECA Sports Freedom
  • Disney project (no real title)
  • Fable III
  • Michael Jackson: The Game (wait waaahh?)
  • Motion Sports
  • Sonic Free Riders
  • Star Wars Kinect (Working title)

Hmm now for the fun part… the rumoured games. Gears of War 3; Ghost Recon Future Soldier. BUWAHAAHHAAHA.
